Automated Biometric Facilitation Continues to Accelerate!

Posted: September 21st, 2018 | Author:

Two announcements in the last two days, confirm Acuity’s recent research findings that the Automated Border Control Market is evolving from a single-point solution market focused on alleviating chokepoint traffic to an integrated Automated Biometric Facilitation Market designed to simplify and expedite passenger processing from “curb to gate”.

These announcements follow an increasingly rapid string of deployments and commitments by major international airports to adopt Automated Biometric Facilitation in India, and at Honk Kong International airport, as well as Orlando’s commitment to be the first U.S. airport to achieve 100% Biometric Exit implementation.

Acuity’s latest research  – The Airport Automated Biometric Facilitation Report: From Curb to Gate – evaluates the global airport market for Automated Biometric Facilitation from 2018 to 2022. This rapidly evolving market will generate more than $1.3 billion dollars in revenue between 2018 and 2022. Even so, by the end of 2020 just 17% of the Total Addressable Market (TAM) of nearly 100,000 check-in, auto bag drop, and border control, security checkpoint and boarding kiosks and eGates will be deployed.

Europe will continue to be the unquestionable revenue leader throughout the forecast period with revenues for Automated Biometric Facilitation solutions growing at a healthy 18.4% CAGR. Europe’s annual revenues more than doubles from 2018 to 2020 accounting for more than 30% of global forecast period revenue as well as total units deployed. However, given the projected growth of airport infrastructure and air passenger numbers in Asia, these market dynamics will shift significantly by 2030.

The Age of Seamless International Travel is Imminent

Biometric Border Innovation Spreads Across the Globe; 4800+ Automated Border Control eGates and Passport Control Kiosks Deployed in 73 Countries

According to Acuity Market Intelligence’s latest research updates, the age of seamless international travel is imminent with more than 4800 Automated Border Control (ABC) eGates and Automated Passport Control (APC) Kiosks are now deployed in 73 countries worldwide. This represents a total of 223 biometric ABC eGate and APC Kiosk deployments across six continents.

The global footprint for biometric-based border automation is expanding as ABC eGates and APC Kiosks have become mainstream and air, land, and sea ports look to increase reliance on these highly successful traveler facilitation solutions.

More than 2500 ABC eGates currently operate at 188 ports in 65 countries, Asia is home to more than 38% of all eGates followed by Europe with 37% of total units worldwide. Acuity expects a modest 10% installed base CAGR for ABC eGates over the next five years. However, many eGates will be upgraded and replaced so annual units deployed will likely be close to 20% of the installed base.

The number of Automated Passport Control (APC) Kiosks nearly doubled between 2015 and 2017 from 1243 to 2300. The Installed base is expected to nearly double again by 2020. Deployments are growing in the US and the Caribbean, Canada is substantially expanding its current program with next generation kiosks while phasing out existing units, and the APC Kiosk approach is now taking hold in Europe and the Middle East.

The next major wave of biometric border automation – currently in its infancy – includes integrating biometric check-in, bag drop, and boarding with passport control. Acuity will provide forecasts for these emerging solutions in the 2018 edition of The Global Automated Border Control Industry Report (http://www.acuity-mi.com/ABCair_Report.php) available this Spring.

In the meantime, get the details in the updated ABC eGate Deployment List (http://www.acuity-mi.com/eGatedep.php) and the APC Kiosk Deployment List (http://www.acuity-mi.com/APCdep.php) Each provides details for all known deployments including location, units, biometrics, registration requires, owners, vendors, and vendor market share analysis

Automated Border Control Kiosks Reach 71 Installations at 59 International Airports and Cruise Terminals

Posted: December 15th, 2017 | Author:

Border authorities have embraced digital identification and biometric-based automation to simplify and accelerate border control processing. Acuity’s latest report on border control kiosks reveals that 71 installations deploying 2283 border control kiosks are active at 59 ports of entry across the globe. These include Automated Border Control (ABC) Kiosks, Automated Passport Control (APC) Kiosks, and Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK).

As airports and other ports of entry struggle to keep up with increasing volumes of global travelers, automation is the only solution for border control. Integrated digital Identification technology, including document readers and biometrics, allow border agents to securely facilitate low risk international travelers while focusing expensive, high value human resources on genuine threats.

The number of border control kiosks increased more than 60% over last year with CAGR projected to exceed 20% for the next 3 years. The US and Canada dominate the market landscape with 60% and 35% of all border control kiosks deployed. Though only about 100 kiosks are deployed at ten locations across the Caribbean, Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East, Acuity expects the use of these highly efficient and cost-effective border control solutions to migrate broadly within existing regions while expanding to include Asia, Latin America, and Africa over the next few years.

Today, kiosks are deployed at just a few cruise ports, but Acuity expects broader use of kiosks at more seaports and land crossings over the next three to five years. Vancouver Airport’s Innovative Travel Solutions group dominates the global market with more than 60% kiosks unit and installation market share.

Acuity Market Intelligence’s “APC Kiosk Deployment List” (http://www.acuity-mi.com/APCdep.php) provides details for all kiosk border control deployments including location, program, owner, units, vendors, costs, and market share analysis.

Acuity’s border control research and analysis also includes the “ABC eGate Deployment List” (http://www.acuity-mi.com/eGatedep.php) and “The Global Automated Border Control Industry Report: Airport eGates and Kiosks” (http://www.acuity-mi.com/ABCair_Report.php).
